Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area
Rules and Regulations

Hullett Marsh is a shared space for nature and people. By visiting, you’re helping us keep this habitat thriving and everyone safe. While visiting the property for any permitted activity is free of charge, support of the Friends of Hullett is always encouraged to help us maintain and protect this landscape.

Please take a moment to review our guidelines below—they are also provided in the Hullett User Guide available within the "Maps" boxes at every parking lot and in links below. It is important for all visitors to note that rules and seasonal access vary by location; please ensure you understand the differences between Zone A and Zone B before heading out; see the table below for more details.

Yellow Dot Signage:
Agreement of Property Use

When you arrive at Hullett, you’ll notice yellow dot signage at all of our main access points (see image to the right). These are formal markers under the Trespass to Property Act. By passing these signs, you’re agreeing to abide by all Hullett rules and safety guidelines outlined in the User Guide and accept liability for any damage to property or personal injury while visiting the Marsh. This is our way of ensuring everyone on the property is on the same page for the safety of all our visitors and wildlife in the HPWA.

Motorized Vehicles

Motorized vehicles are restricted to maintained roads and parking areas only. To protect trail integrity and wildlife, off-roading is not permitted.

Biking

Standard bicycles and E-bikes falling under provincial regulation are permitted throughout the Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area (see Ontario Reg 369/09 for definition of E-bikes).

Parking

General Hours and Locations

Day-use parking is permitted daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM. If you require overnight parking, you must use the lot at 40874 Summerhill Road. Please be aware that camper trailers are strictly prohibited anywhere on the property.

Zone-specific Instructions

When accessing Zone B, you must park in the designated lots shown in the User Guide behind any available barrier. Please respect posted capacity limits.

For Zone A, parking rules change depending on the season:

During Migratory Bird Season

Hunters must park behind the numbered barrier that matches their selected hunting stake. These numbered spaces are reserved exclusively for hunters. All other visitors accessing Zone A during this time must park behind unnumbered barriers.

Outside of Hunting Season

All barriers in Zone A, whether numbered or unnumbered, are available for any visitor

Trailers

If you are bringing a trailer for horses or watercraft, please ensure it does not obstruct gates, access routes, or other parking spaces. Whenever possible, unhitch and lock your trailer, parking your vehicle directly alongside it to save space. Never park in front of gates or emergency access points.

Dogs

Dogs must be leashed or kept under immediate control at all times. To protect nesting birds and other residents, do not allow pets to disturb wildlife (unless actively engaged in hunting). Hullett Marsh does not have garbage cans; please pick up after your dog and pack out all waste bags. Leaving bags on trails, in parking lots, or hanging from trees is strictly prohibited.

Garbage

Hullett Marsh is a trash-free facility and does not provide garbage cans. To help maintain the integrity of our natural habitats, you are responsible for removing all personal refuse from the property. Whatever you bring in—including food packaging and beverage containers—must be taken back out with you when you leave.

Please be advised that dumping is strictly prohibited. This includes the disposal of household trash, appliances, or landscaping debris. We take the protection of this Marsh seriously, and those found dumping waste on the property will be held accountable. Help us keep the Marsh clean; if you see unauthorized dumping occurring, please report it to the authorities.

Dog Training

Dog training on water is permitted in Zone A (before May 15 and after July 31) and Zone B (before May 15 and after July 15).

Dogs must remain leashed or under the handler’s immediate control at all times. If using live birds for training, handlers must obtain the required OMNR permits from the Vineland Area Office (905-562-1177). These may include authorizations for training during closed seasons or for the release of propagated wildlife.

Horse Access

Horseback riding is welcomed throughout the property for much of the year. However, to ensure safety and habitat protection, Zone A is closed to horses from October 1 to April 30. During this winter period, equestrian access remains available within Zone B only. More information on horseback riding at Hullett is available here.

Snowmobiles

Snowmobiles are permitted only on marked Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club trails and only when these trails are officially open. Please visit www.ofsc.on.ca for trail locations and current status.

Bookings For Group Activities

Booking for any groups, including dog trials, training, bird watching, horseback riding, etc., may be scheduled by contacting the Hullett office at 519-482-7011. Any large groups found on the property that have not scheduled an event with Friends of Hullett will be asked to leave the marsh.

Water Access

Water access for any purpose is not permitted in Zone A between May 15 – July 31 and in Zone B between May 15 – July 15. This restriction includes retriever training activities, kayaking, canoeing, and wading to minimize disturbances to nesting waterfowl and support successful breeding. More information on paddling at Hullett is available here.

Foraging

Permitted for personal consumption only. Please harvest respectfully and take only what you need. More information on foraging at Hullett is available here.

Restricted Areas
