"Freeze" the day at Hullett Marsh
Winter at the Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area offers a unique perspective on the landscape, as the migration of birds and the hibernation of certain wildlife make it an ideal season for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The bare branches of the trees reveal previously hidden bird nests, providing a rare opportunity for enthusiasts to map out specific locations to revisit during the spring breeding season. The fresh snow also serves as a perfect canvas for wildlife tracking, allowing visitors to identify the travel corridors and home territories of active residents like deer, foxes, and coyotes.

Visitors are invited to explore the property’s 12 kilometers of nature trails and 20 kilometers of dyke tops, which offer stunning vistas for winter photography. However, the Friends of Hullett urge everyone to exercise extreme caution regarding ice safety. Because of the unique nature of marshes and natural springs, ice conditions are often poor and unpredictable; guests should not venture onto the ice without appropriate training and equipment.

For those interested in motorized recreation, the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) maintains designated trails that cross the property. Snowmobilers must possess a valid permit and are strictly limited to these marked trails. To ensure the safety of all visitors, hikers and skiers are reminded to avoid these specific snowmobile routes while enjoying the marsh.
